Poem/Vocab

Spotlight

Once a year comes a night of attainment
Exclusive awards are given, the losers may resent
All actors and actresses will attend, whether friends or foe
But winners feel supercilious, and rightfully so
Welcome, to the Academy Awards

First the limos arrive, down the red carpet to the spotlight each beauty struts
They act nonchalant, hoping they do not end up in a rut
Each dress is so gorgeous, handpicked for this night
Whoever looks the best will put the others out of sight
You can find the most beautiful people, at the Academy Awards

An uncanny feeling consumes all of the nominees
If the Academy esteems your film, you shall soon see
The Oscars are not bequeathed, but earned through talented work
If you ascertain you are the winner, you will be invulnerable and enter the stage with a smirk
You are a champion, of the Academy Awards

Most movies are finite in one’s memory, forgotten as soon as they’re done
But the best picture of the year will remain in the spotlight as the most popular one
All of the celebrities disperse as the glamorous night comes to an end
The planning for next year now begins, to create a show that has become such a trend
Goodbye for now, from the Academy Awards

Vocab Week 3

This weekend my dad and I went for a sojourn to Salt Lake City, Utah. I had been musing this trip for a while, so as soon as we got out of the car and looked at the mountains, I felt exhilarated. The weather was a little inclement at first, but once I got used to it I was having a great time. A lot of the runs were harder than what I was used to, but I did not want to seem like a craven. There are signs on the other side of the mountain warning people to not go there, but some people considered these negligible and skied the entire mountain. Skiing the other side has resulted in the demise of numerous people. When a few people take this risk, it becomes a precedent for others. When they venture into the danger side, hopefully the mountain is not feeling punitive! Though we did not go to the dangerous side, I still had one of the best times of my life. It is too bad that our stay in Salt Lake City could not have perpetuated

Vocab Week 2

The Grammy Awards come around once a year. When a singer receives a Grammy, he or she is being extolled by the entire world who is watching. On the red carpet everyone acts amicable towards each other, but deep down they are fearing the retrogress of their careers. Not receiving a Grammy year after year creates jeopardy for a singer's career. It is feasible that any of the nominees could win the Grammy, but who actually will win is determined by a committee. The committee must scrutinize each performer very closely, and be meticulous about turning in the correct winners. When a winner is announced, the other nominees try their hardest not to make too much of a grimace. The losers try their hardest not to act as if their loss is  impervious to them and their careers, but the truth is, the loss will create a powerful impetus to work twice as hard the following year.

Vocab Week 1

The most beautiful girl in the world lives at my house...my dog, Chrissy. Her guise is stunning, even f her fur is slightly unkempt at times. Chrissy certainly has not been bereft of anything in her opulent lifestyle. More than anything, she loves to eat. She gapes at the sight of a delicious meal, and shows great fortitude as she does whatever she is able to get a bite of that food. Her miserable barks give an intimation that cannot be ignored of her desire for a treat. You can reiterate to her, "Stop!" over and over again, but her dour expressions eventually win. At the end of the day though, no matter what mischief Chrissy creates, my love for her always augments more every single day.
